Three tools for working out dilutions, fortifications, and blends of alcoholic solutions.
Fill in the blanks in any sentence. The shaded field fills in as soon as the other values are entered.
Use consistent units for volume across a sentence. Whatever unit you enter (mL, ounces, cups) is the unit of the result.
I have % alcohol, and I want to dilute it with water down to units of % alcohol. I need to combine — units of the alcohol with — units of water.
example: I have 95% alcohol on hand, and I need 20 ounces of 65% alcohol for the tincture I'm making.
formula: Units of alcohol = target % × target units ÷ starting %. The rest is water.
I have units of % alcohol, and I want to raise it to % alcohol. The alcohol I am adding is %. I need to add — units of my stronger alcoholic solution.
example: I have 10 ounces of fresh ginger juice/succus (0% alcohol), and I want to raise it to 25% alcohol for preservation, using a tincture of ginger that is 70% alcohol. How much tincture do I need to add?
formula: Units to add = units on hand × (target % − current %) ÷ (added % − target %)
I have units of % alcohol, and units of % alcohol. If I combine the two, I will have — units of — % alcohol.
example: I have 6 ounces of Reishi double-extract, which is 25% alcohol. If I add two ounces of Milky Oats tincture to it (40% alcohol), what alcohol % will the combination be?
formula: Resulting % = (units of first × first % + units of second × second %) ÷ total units
